Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty)
in Dallas, TX

First impressions are crucially important, and so is the feature that most substantially impacts one’s appearance. A nose that is out of proportion to the rest of the face can detract from a person’s overall appearance and harm self-confidence. Often seen as the central feature of the face, the nose plays a significant role in determining overall facial harmony. Rhinoplasty helps create a nose that is in balance with the rest of the face by correcting the unsatisfactory results of genetic deformities or traumatic nose injuries.

Dr. Al Aly specializes in primary, revision, and ethnic rhinoplasty. He performs nose surgery in Dallas, Texas, to help patients feel comfortable and confident in their facial features.

What Is Rhinoplasty?

Nose surgery, also known as rhinoplasty, is designed to improve the size and shape of the nose in proportion to the rest of a person’s face. The nose bridge, nostrils, and tip can be resized and reshaped to better suit the patient’s entire face and desired aesthetic. This procedure can also correct breathing problems associated with the nasal passage.

Am I a Candidate for Rhinoplasty?

You might be a good candidate for rhinoplasty if you meet the following criteria:

  • You are in good general health
  • You wish to alter the shape and/or size of your nose
  • You are experiencing nasal airway obstruction due to a deviated septum
  • You understand the nature of the procedure and have realistic expectations for results

What Are the Benefits of Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures because of its ability to enhance facial harmony drastically.

Rhinoplasty surgery can effectively:

  • Reduce or increase the overall size of the nose in some patients
  • Smooth out bumps and depressions on the bridge of the nose
  • Narrow or widen the bridge of the nose
  • Change the size, shape, and angulation of the tip of the nose
  • Widen or narrow the size of the nostrils
  • Adjust the angle between the nose and upper lip
  • Straighten the septum to improve breathing

How Should I Prepare for Rhinoplasty?

Before you undergo rhinoplasty, your surgeon will provide you with instructions to ensure you are prepared. These instructions may include getting lab tests, adjusting your current medications, refraining from smoking for six weeks or more, and avoiding medications that increase bleeding risks (e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen).

It is also recommended that you prepare your home ahead of time for optimal comfort and convenience during recovery. Preparing your space may involve grocery shopping and stocking up on nutritious foods to support healing, meal-prepping easy meals, and arranging stacks of pillows to prop your head up when sleeping.

Your surgeon can provide you with additional tips and ideas for making your home the ideal recovery space.

What Does the Rhinoplasty Procedure Entail?

A patient’s primary rhinoplasty is when their nose has never been operated on before. This procedure is very nuanced and requires precise technique, so even the most minor surgical changes can have an enormous impact. Therefore, rhinoplasty must be handled with great care. Compared to revision rhinoplasty, primary rhinoplasty offers the best chance of getting things in proper alignment.

At the start of the procedure, the patient is given anesthesia to ensure their comfort throughout surgery. Next, Dr. Aly will make incisions around or inside the nose, depending on the type of rhinoplasty (open, closed, septoplasty, etc.). After the incisions are created, Dr. Aly will be able to access the outer and internal nasal structures. Dr. Aly will make the necessary adjustments and then close the incisions.

What Are My Rhinoplasty Options?

Open Rhinoplasty

  • Performed under general anesthesia
  • Incisions are made across the central nostril skin as well as the inside of the nose
  • Allows the most visibility for the surgeon during the procedure
  • Generally used for more extensive revision or more complicated procedures
  • It is a bit like working on the engine of a car with the hood opened

Closed Rhinoplasty

  • Performed under either intravenous sedation or general anesthesia
  • Incisions are made on the inside of the nose
  • Shorter surgical and recovery time
  • May be ideal for less extensive revision or more simple cases

Other Rhinoplasty Options

If a person’s ideal results are not achieved with a previous rhinoplasty, a revision rhinoplasty procedure may be needed. In a secondary procedure, the surgeon must take alternative methods to remedy prior issues and create an appealing aesthetic.

Although Dr. Aly also specializes in ethnic rhinoplasty procedures designed to address the anatomy and desires of various ethnic groups, he also specializes in primary and secondary rhinoplasty.

How Long Does It Take to Recover From Rhinoplasty?

Most patients will need about one week to recover from rhinoplasty, after which they will feel well enough to return to work. However, strenuous exercises and physical activities should be avoided until your surgeon determines that your nose has healed properly during a follow-up appointment.

Rhinoplasty requires post-operative appointments with Dr. Aly to assess your healing process and to remove the cast. Additionally, Dr. Aly will provide you with specific post-operative instructions on how to care for your nose after rhinoplasty.

What Can I Expect From My Rhinoplasty Results?

The results of rhinoplasty will become more evident as the swelling goes down over the coming weeks and months. Most patients can see some improvement once the cast has been removed, but it may take up to a year to see the final results of your rhinoplasty. Continue to care for your healing nose by avoiding dangerous activities as it heals.

How Much Does a Nose Job Cost in Dallas, Texas?

Each nose job is customized to suit the unique needs of every individual. The rhinoplasty technique and the patient’s natural nose will impact the cost of the procedure. It’s important to keep in mind that the surgeon’s fee for rhinoplasty will reflect their experience and expertise—plastic surgeons who are highly skilled experts in rhinoplasty may have a higher fee compared to other plastic surgeons.

Additionally, it is essential to understand that multiple elements go into your total rhinoplasty cost. On top of the surgeon’s fee, you can expect to pay surgical facility costs, anesthesia fees, and pain medication prescriptions.

During your consultation with Dr. Aly, you’ll receive a price quote for your custom rhinoplasty to help you prepare for the financial costs.

Rhinoplasty FAQs

  • Will I have any pain or discomfort during the rhinoplasty procedure?

No. Anesthesia is administered throughout the entire rhinoplasty process, so patients do not have to worry about feeling any pain or discomfort during surgery.

  • How long does rhinoplasty take to complete?

Rhinoplasty generally takes two to four hours, although the exact time will depend on the specific corrections required. Once a surgical plan has been created and agreed upon, Dr. Aly can provide patients with a more specific timeframe.

  • Will I be able to go home after the surgery is complete?

Rhinoplasty is usually performed on an outpatient basis, so most patients are cleared to go home after surgery. However, because you will still be under the effects of anesthesia after surgery, you will need someone to drive you home.

  • Will rhinoplasty leave scarring?

Surgical procedures that require incisions leave some extent of scarring. However, rhinoplasty incisions will be placed inside the nose or on the columella (the skin bridge on the underside of the nose between the nostrils) to ensure scarring is as inconspicuous as possible. In most cases, this is not even visible after a few months.

  • When will the stitches be removed?

Dr. Aly utilizes absorbable stitches, which do not need to be removed. The only stitch to remove is the one that holds a “splint” that is sometimes placed on the inside of the nose if the septum (the wall between the two sides of the nose) is operated on. That stitch is typically removed six or seven days after surgery.

  • Will I have a cast on my nose after surgery?

An external nasal cast is most often placed on the bridge of the nose. This cast supports the healing nose and helps keep it in its new shape. It is removed in six to seven days. Subsequently, Dr. Aly will have you tape your nose continuously for one week and then transition to using the tape only at night for a few weeks. The taping greatly reduces swelling and speeds up the healing process.

  • Will I have packing in my nose after surgery?

Dr. Aly does not utilize packing in the nose, which typically results in a more comfortable early recovery period as patients find it easier to breathe.

  • Is rhinoplasty recovery painful?

The first few days after rhinoplasty are typically the most uncomfortable. However, Dr. Aly utilizes a long-lasting anesthetic at the time of surgery, which greatly reduces the discomfort. Most patients characterize the discomfort as a “plugged up nose” rather than frank pain. Patients can expect to experience bruising, swelling, and minor bleeding. Dr. Aly can provide instructions on what pain medications are acceptable to help you through the early stages. After the first few days, your nose should feel less uncomfortable, and as swelling lessens over the next few weeks, you will feel more like yourself again.

  • Will my rhinoplasty results be permanent?

Rhinoplasty is a permanent cosmetic procedure that alters and improves the nose’s appearance. Barring subsequent injury or breaks to the nose, your results will last a lifetime.

  • Are there any age limits for rhinoplasty patients?

Rhinoplasty is one of the few cosmetic procedures that can be performed on teens. However, most plastic surgeons will not perform it on a patient younger than 15 or whose nose has not finished developing. If it is performed on a patient who is too young, their noses will continue to grow and develop, which may affect the results.

  • Will insurance pay for a nose job?

You may qualify for receiving rhinoplasty insurance coverage if you are getting the procedure to improve breathing problems or a severely deviated external nose. Insurance coverage is reliant on deeming the surgery as a medically necessary procedure, so there needs to be proof that the rhinoplasty will help improve the nasal framework and function. If you are getting rhinoplasty for cosmetic reasons only, it is not likely to receive insurance coverage.
